Aarhus-OII Workshop on Internet Studies held 19 March 2010

My thanks to Charles Ess and his colleagues in the Department of Information and Media Studies (IMV) at the University of Aarhus, Denmark, for hosting the 19 March workshop on Internet Studies, in collaboration with the OII. I provided moral support to Professor Charles Ess and his colleagues at the IMV who did most of the work in developing this workshop, which Charles chaired. It was designed to be the first of a series of workshops to be held over the next year to assess the development of this emerging field of study. It is designed to build on one of the first handbooks on Internet Studies, which Charles co-edited, and to help inform the development of an Oxford Handbook of Internet Studies, which I am editing for Oxford University Press. It will feature original perspectives on the history and future of Internet Studies by a multi-disciplinary array of academics contributing to this emerging field. (Another workshop is being planned for early 2010 at the Open University of Catalonia in Barcelona, organized in collaboration with the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3).)

Please contact me if you or your respective Internet research centre might wish to get involved in this developing discussion of Internet Studies.
