Glory to Ukraine: The US Must Step Up

Ukraine Needs the US to Step Up

It is blindingly obvious that the Ukraine-Russia negotiations are rigged against Ukraine.  Russia has more cards to play in the negotiations: Donald Trump admires President Putin and resents President Zelenskyy; Trump has business deals in Russia; Trump is jealous of the sophistication of leaders of the NATO and EU countries; and the US has adopted a security plan without public debate that throws Ukraine into Russia’s hemisphere. Trump has a fat finger on the scales of justice that work against Ukraine.

A simple example: After Trump was first elected for a second term, he parroted the Russian narrative that the Ukraine, US, UK, and NATO countries provoked the Russian invasion. His focus on who started the war came up in so many contradictions with the historical record, that he eventually dropped it. But, most recently, he latched on to another narrative around saving lives. This may sound fair and sympathetic to saving lives of Russians and Ukrainians dying on the battlefields. However, it provides a means to justify stopping the war with Russia occupying territories of the sovereign nation of Ukraine. Trump is asking you to forget who started this brutal war, who is occupying a sovereign country, that Putin has been judged a war criminal for supporting the abduction 20,000 Ukrainian children, and just stop fighting. Don’t be fooled.

I am an American. I know that most Americans support Ukraine, but most Americans also seem to care less about Ukraine or any other foreign countries than they care about the cult of Donald Trump and their own domestic grievances. I can only hope that an increasing number of Americans begin to see that this obsession is taking them down a dangerous path of White nationalism, as we have seen in Minnesota, along with corrupt ties with big business owners that have been key historically to the rise of fascist regimes.

Wake up and help Ukraine remove Russian forces from their nation. ‘Slava Ukraini’ – Glory to Ukraine is a symbol of the sovereignty of Ukraine and its resistance to foreign aggression.
